Google Maps is the go-to navigation tool on our Android. I love how convenient it is to drop a pin in Google Maps to bookmark a place or share it with others on my Android. This simple feature is beneficial in numerous circumstances.
You can quickly pin a location without an address or on an off-road network on Google Maps. Sounds interesting? Just follow the steps in this guide, and I’ll help you drop a pin in no time!
How to drop a pin in Google Maps on your Android phone
You can pin a place in Google Maps on Android in two ways: type the place in the search bar or locate it on the map.
- Go to the Google Maps app.
- In the Search bar, type the name of the place you want to pin.
- Tap the desired place from the suggestion list or tap the Search icon on the keyboard.
- Select the place, and you will see a red pin indicating the location.
Method 2: Locate the place on the map
- Go to the Google Maps app.
- On the map, locate the place you wish to pin.
- Now, long-press the location to drop a pin.
How to drop a pin in Google Maps on your Desktop
If you are using a desktop and wish to pin a location, follow the steps below:
- Go to the Google Maps’ home page.
- Find the location you want to pin on the Map and left-click it.
- If you cannot find the location on the given map area, you can Search for the approximate location in the search bar on the top left corner of the screen. Now, zoom in to find the desired location, and left-click it.
- If you cannot find the location on the given map area, you can Search for the approximate location in the search bar on the top left corner of the screen. Now, zoom in to find the desired location, and left-click it.
- You will see a small grey pin on the map with an information box at the bottom.
- To get more information about the place, click the pop-up box.
What can you do with a dropped pin in Google Maps on Android?
Now that you have dropped a pin at your desired location let’s see how you can make the most of this feature.
1. Get Directions
The top feature Google Maps is known for is offering the fastest and the best route for commuting from one place to another. To do this, once you have dropped the pin,
- Tap Directions.
- You can change the pin to the starting or ending point by tapping the swap icon.
2. Share dropped pin
You can share the pinned location with others so that they can also find it on the map. On Android, this works the same way as sharing an image or a video.
- Tap Share.
- Tap the platform via which you wish to share the location and send.
3. Save pinned location
You can save a pinned location to access it from all your devices. However, you need to be signed in with your Google account. To save a pinned location,
- Tap/Click Save.
- Choose the list. (Or create a new one if you wish)
- You can also add a note about the place.
- Tap done.
4. Label dropped pin
Google Maps offers a more personalized experience by letting you add labels to your pinned places. For instance, you can set a particular place, such as your home, office, school, gym, etc.
- Tap/Click Add label.
- Enter a custom name.
- On Android, tap Save.
How to remove a pinned location on Google Maps
Now that you know your way around pinning a place, how do you remove a pinned place from Google Maps? I’ve got you covered.
If you have not saved the dropped pin, tap/click the X icon on the location menu to remove it. Follow the steps below for the saved pins:
On Android
- Open the Google Maps app → Tap Saved.
- Open the list in which the said pin is saved.
- Tap the Kebab menu against the pin.
- Hit Remove place.
On Desktop
- Visit the Google Maps website → Click Saved on the left pane.
- Open the list in which you have the said pin saved.
- Click the saved pin.
- Click Saved.
- Click the list in which the pin is saved.
This will automatically remove the pin from the saved list!
No more missed locations…
