How to unblock number on your Android Phone

Did you miss calls from your friends, only to find out later that you accidentally blocked them on your smartphone? Well, the experience can be frustrating. Therefore, knowing the steps to unblock a number on Android phone is important.

Whether you have blocked someone intentionally or unintentionally, here are different ways to unblock a number on your Android phone.

How to unblock a phone number on Android phone

Google Pixel phone offers multiple ways to unblock both known and unknown numbers.

However, please note that the information and images below were generated from Google Pixel 7a. Some steps may differ depending on the Android skin your smartphone is running on.

Method 1: Unblock contacts from the Phone app

This is by far the easiest method to unblock a contact on Android. Most Android smartphones these days have a Phone by Google as the primary dialer, and it’s quite easy to unblock blocked contacts using the app. Simply follow the below steps:

1. Open the Phone app → Tap the three-dot icon at the top right → Pick Settings.
2. Choose Blocked numbers. Here, you can view all blocked numbers on your Android smartphone.
   
   
3. To unblock a contact, simply press the cross mark (x) against the number → Select Unblock to confirm your choice.
   
   

Method 2: From Recents in Phone app

If you want to unblock a contact that you recently called or they called you, there is a nifty shortcut for it. 

1. Open the Phone app → Visit the Recents section.
2. Now, tap and hold the contact that you want to unblock.
3. Tap Unblock from the drop-down menu → Again, select Unblock to confirm your choice.
   
   

This action will immediately unblock the contact.

Method 3: From Contacts app

1. Open the Contacts app on your phone → Go to Fix & manage from the menu at the bottom.
2. Choose the Blocked numbers option.
3. Tap the cross mark (x) in front of the number that you want to unblock.
   
   

Method 4: Using Messages app

Many users are not aware that you can unblock a contact on Pixel using the Messages app as well. Here are the steps for it.

1. Open the Messages app → Tap the profile photo in the top right corner.
2. Choose Spam & blocked.
3. Tap the contact that you want to unblock → Choose Unblock from the popup that appears.
   
   
   • If you are not able to see the contact that you want to unblock on this screen, go back to the Spam & Blocked menu → Tap the three-dot icon at the top right corner → Choose Blocked numbers.
     
     

Disable the spam filter and turn on unidentified callers

If you have unblocked the contact via the steps mentioned above but are still missing calls, then there is one more setting that might help you get rid of the issue.

Pixel smartphones offer a spam filtering option along with a feature to block calls from unidentified numbers. You can try disabling these settings if you are still missing important phone calls.

1. Visit the Phone app on your smartphone and tap the three-dot icon from the top right corner.
2. Next, tap Settings → Choose Caller ID & spam.
3. Here, toggle off Filter spam calls.
   
   
4. Further, to turn off the feature that blocks calls from unknown numbers, visit the previous menu and select Blocked numbers → Toggle off Unkown.
   
   

This will ensure that you will receive calls even from numbers that are not saved in your contact list.

How to unblock a number on Samsung Galaxy phones

You unblock a number on Samsung Galaxy phones in one of two ways. I have mentioned both below.

Before proceeding, please note that the images below were captured from a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5.

Method 1: From Phone app

1. Launch the Phone app → Tap the three-dot icon at the top right → Choose Settings.
   
   
2. Pick Block numbers.
3. Now, to unblock a contact, all you need to do is tap the minus (-) button next to the contact.
   
   

Method 2: From Contacts app

1. Open the Contacts app.
2. Search for and open the contact you wish to unblock.
3. Select the info (i) icon → Tap the three-dot icon at the bottom right → Choose Unblock contact.
   
   

Unblock a number on Android using third-party apps

For some reason, if the methods for the default Phone and Contacts app are not working, you can simply install a third-party app. You can easily block/unblock a contact on Android using these apps.

We recommend using Truecaller or ACR Phone for their easy-to-use interface and the functionality these apps offer.

Unblock numbers on Android to receive calls

If you are not able to receive calls from a contact, chances are that you have landed them in your blocked list accidentally. Fret not; there are easy ways to unblock a number on Android. You can use the default phone app and contact app for the same.

You can even unblock contacts using the messages app. If everything else fails, you always have third-party apps like Truecaller and ACR Phone at your disposal.
